Reserva Mamiraua

A Pousada Flutuante Uacari centraliza as atividades de ecoturismo e conta com 10 suítes. Cada suíte tem cerca de 25 metros quadrados,possui varanda,energia solar,chuveiro de água quente e sistema de filtragem de dejetos.

As suítes são ligadas entre si através de passarelas flutuantes.No flutuante central os hóspedes encontram o restaurante,sala para vídeos,uma pequena biblioteca,sala para palestras e deck.

A alimentação é tipicamente regional,com bastante peixe,frango,frutas e sucos.Não servimos carne vermelha e ainda temos cardápio vegetariano(opcional).

Programação

A programação em Mamirauá oferece atividades que incluem passeios com guias locais em canos, lagos e trilhas para a observação da fauna amazônica; visitas às comunidades locais para conhecer o modo de vida das populações ribeirinhas, além de oferecer a oportunidade de conhecer o trabalho de um projeto de conservação pioneiro no Brasil. Os pacotes incluem translados em Tefé (Aeroporto ou Hotel) até a Pousada Flutuante Uacari,pensão completa,passeios com guias e hospedagem.

Pick up às 11:20 am & Check out às 08:30 am

PRIMEIRO DIA: SÁBADO

Receptivo no Aeroporto de Tefé ás 11:20 e translado para o Porto Areia Branca (logo após pagamentos no escritório-Instituto Mamirauá e visita a Loja Mamirauá).
A viagem será de lancha e dura cerca de 1h 30min. No caminho você já pode ir aproveitando a brisa e a paisagem. A avistagem de aves, botos e tucuxis são possíveis durante o trajeto no Rio Amazonas.
Sua chegada está prevista para 14:00. Na Pousada Uacari você será recebido pelo Guia Naturalista para uma breve explicação sobre o funcionamento e regras gerais da pousada (horário das refeições, energia solar, água, etc.). Também será solicitado que você preencha o registro de visitantes nesta ocasião.
Todas as excursões serão acompanhadas por um Guia Local e algumas também pelo Guia Naturalista. Você deve seguir suas recomendações, especialmente aquelas referentes à sua própria segurança.
Normalmente, o almoço é servido entre 12:30 e 13:30 e o jantar ás 19:30.
Depois do almoço, você pode descansar em uma rede na varanda do seu apartamento, assistir a vídeos sobre a pesquisa realizada em Mamirauá, ler um livro ou apenas conversar. As excursões na parte da tarde serão realizadas quando o sol baixar um pouco para evitar o calor, começam ás 15:30, Você será levado para uma trilha interpretativa na floresta. O conhecimento científico do Guia Naturalista e o tradicional do Guia Local o ajudará a interpretar o ambiente singular da floresta de Várzea.
Nossas trilhas não são fisicamente árduas, a maioria pode ser percorrida em três horas no máximo.
Durante a cheia (Maio-Julho) o passeio é de canoa na mata, visto que o nível da água sobe em média 12 metros na estação das chuvas.
Logo após o jantar, esteja preparado para uma excursão noturna, onde terá oportunidade para avistar aqueles animais que são ativos principalmente à noite como aranhas, mucura, preguiça, ratos, morcegos, etc.

SEGUNDO DIA: DOMINGO

Nesta manhã, se optou por visitar uma comunidade local de caboclos, você será levado para conhecer uma das comunidades que participam do programa de ecoturismo. Um itinerário foi proposto pelas comunidades com base em uma série de atrativos que os ribeirinhos querem mostrar aos visitantes. Um comunitário se apresenta para ser seu anfitrião durante a visita (por favor, veja o folheto informativo sobre regras e recomendações específico para estas visitas). Esta é uma oportunidade única para conhecer a vida local e também o trabalho do Instituto Mamirauá na na perspectiva dos moradores locais. Os comunitários geralmente prestam mais informações quando o visitante é interessado e faz perguntas, por isso não se acanhe! Dependendo da comunidade, você poderá comprar artesanato produzido localmente, leve dinheiro trocado.
Se você escolheu não visitar a comunidade, você terá a possibilidade de realizar outro passeio, juntamente com seu guia local.
À tarde você irá fazer outra caminhada ou passeio de canoa cheia), sempre explorando um lugar diferente na Reserva.
Nesta noite está programada uma palestra com os pesquisadores que estejam atuando na área do ecoturismo para conversar sobre o seu objeto de estudos.

TERCEIRO DIA: SEGUNDA-FEIRA

No seu último dia na reserva você tem a escolha de acompanhar a equipe de pesquisadores e participar dos trabalhos de campo complementando a informação teórica da noite anterior. Ou se preferir poderá fazer outro passeio de observação de vida selvagem, percorrendo as paisagens, canos e lagos que junto com a floresta inundável compõem o ecossistema de várzea.
À tarde, você será levado ao Lago Mamirauá, um maravilhoso lago dentro da área de proteção integral da Reserva. Nesta ocasião, poderá ter encontros memoráveis com botos cor-de-rosa, ciganas talvez o pirarucu. Você ficará lá até o pôr-do-sol e no retorno fará focagens noturnas, avistando jacarés, bacuraus, morcegos, etc.
O jantar será servido às 20:00. Em sua última noite você pode conversar com a equipe da pousada, assistir um documentário, ou simplesmente arrumar sua bagagem para aproveitar melhor a manhã seguinte.
O horário de saída da Pousada será às 8:30 na Terça-Feira. Antes de sair, por favor, não esqueça de preencher a ficha de avaliação A sua opinião sobre a estadia é muito importante para nós, desta forma poderemos melhorar nossos serviços.

As excursões na parte da tarde são realizadas quando o sol baixar um pouco para evitar o calor forte, começam ás 15:30, o guia local que vai acompanhá-los durante os passeios irá levá-lo a um  passeio de canoa tradicional dentro do coração da floresta, onde terá oportunidade de observar várias espécies de animais.
Às 19:00 o guia naturalista dará uma palestra sobre o Ecossistema Amazônico e as atividades desenvolvidas pelo Instituto Mamirauá. Depois do jantar você poderá assistir a um vídeo, ou se recolher para ouvir a sinfonia noturna de sua primeira noite na selva, descansando para o próximo dia.

SEGUNDO DIA: QUARTA-FEIRA

TERCEIRO DIA: QUINTA-FEIRA

Os animais da floresta despertam ao nascer do sol, por isso se você deseja avistar a vida selvagem, também deve se levantar cedo para visitar as trilhas. O café é servido às 06:30 e a partir das 07:00 as atividades se iniciam. Você será levado para uma trilha interpretativa na floresta. O conhecimento científico do Guia Naturalista e o tradicional do Guia Local o ajudará a interpretar o ambiente singular da floresta de Várzea (floresta alagada). Nossas trilhas não são fisicamente árduas, a maioria pode ser percorrida em três horas no máximo.
Durante a cheia (Maio-Julho) o passeio é de canoa na mata, visto que o nível da água sobe em média 12 metros na estação das chuvas.
Pela tarde você tem a escolha de acompanhar a equipe de pesquisadores e participar dos trabalhos de campo complementando a informação teórica da noite anterior. Ou, se preferir, poderá fazer outro passeio de observação de vida selvagem, percorrendo as paisagens, canos e lagos que junto com a floresta inundável compõem o ecossistema de várzea, um ótimo momento para observação da vida selvagem, com grande possibilidade de avistamento de mamíferos e pássaros.
Logo após o jantar, esteja preparado para uma excursão noturna, onde terá oportunidade para avistar aqueles animais que são ativos principalmente à noite como porco-espinho, mucura, preguiça, ratos, morcegos, aranhas, insetos, etc.

QUARTO DIA: SEXTA-FEIRA

No seu último dia na reserva, mais acostumado com a floresta, você terá mais chance de avistar animais como macacos guaribas, pregos, de cheiro, uacaris, preguiças e ciganas. Se preferir, você poderá testar suas habilidades em uma pescaria tradicional ou fisgar piranhas.
À tarde você será levado ao Lago Mamirauá, um maravilhoso lago dentro da área de proteção integral da Reserva. Nesta ocasião, poderá ter encontros memoráveis com botos cor-de-rosa, ciganas e talvez o pirarucu. Você ficará lá até o pôr-do-sol e no retorno fará umas focagens noturnas, avistando jacarés, bacuraus, morcegos.
Neste dia o jantar será servido às 20:00. Em sua última noite você pode conversar com a equipe da pousada, confraternizar, assistir um documentário, ou arrumar sua bagagem para aproveitar melhor a manhã seguinte.
Check out será às 8:30 da manhã de Sábado. Antes de sair, por favor, não esqueça de preencher a ficha de avaliação. A sua opinião sobre a estadia é muito importante para nós, desta forma poderemos melhorar nossos serviços.

RECOMENDAÇÕES

A área que você vai visitar na Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamirauá é parte de um ecossistema de várzea, uma floresta inundada por rios amazônicos ricos em sedimentos. É formada por canos, lagos e pela floresta inundada.
Nos passeios a lagos e canos, serão usadas voadeiras e canoas. Nessas ocasiões, será necessário proteger-se do sol tropical. Recomendamos filtro solar e óculos de sol. Óculos de sol com filtro especial para sol permitirão que você veja através dos reflexos na água.
Um sistema de trilhas foi construído para permitir acesso à floresta. Recomendamos roupas e calçados adequados - alguns trechos da trilha poderão estar alagados. Não use suas melhores roupas, pois você pode ficar enlameado!

A várzea tem muitos mosquitos. Eles picam tanto à noite quanto de dia. Assim, não se esqueça de trazer repelente.

Recomendamos que você traga:

• binóculos (dispomos na pousada)
• calça comprida confortável
• camisa de mangas compridas
• sapato ou tênis confortável
• boné ou chapéu
• repelente para insetos
• capa de chuva (dispomos na pousada)
• filtro solar
• no caso de ser alérgico, não esquecer de levar os remédios utilizados e/ou medicamentos pessoais.

Você estará em uma área de proteção ambiental. Pelas leis brasileiras, é expressamente proibido retirar qualquer espécie de material da reserva (plantas, animais, ovos, flores, sementes, etc). A direção do ecoturismo estará atenta a esta norma para benefício da vida selvagem da reserva.

Você encontrará lixeiras na casa flutuante para jogar lixo. Não é permitido jogar lixo (papel, sacos plásticos, latas, copos, etc..) na área da reserva, por se tornar material poluente que causa sérios problemas aos animais, plantas e a água;
Devido a presença de grande quantidade de piranhas e jacarés que vivem nas águas da Reserva não é aconselhável tomar banho nos rios, igapós, canos , lagos , etc..

Existem guias para todas as atividades previstas durante a sua estadia na reserva. Para sua segurança, é proibido entrar na floresta ou fazer passeios sem a companhia de um guia.

O uso de bebidas alcoólicas só é permitido na Pousada do Ecoturismo e não poderá ser feito durante os passeios na Reserva.

O não cumprimento destas orientações poderá causar acidentescuja responsabilidade é exclusivamente do visitante.

Na época da seca, será possível caminhar nas trilhas. Entretanto, na época da cheia (janeiro a julho) possivelmente você percorrerá as trilhas utilizando canoas. Alguns cuidados devem ser observados:

• Não tocar nos arbustos, árvores (animais venenosos como escorpião, formiga de fogo, e aranhas, vivem lá e são difíceis de serem vistos).
• Use sempre o colete salva-vidas durante os passeios em voadeiras e canoas. Sua vida poderá depender disso.
• Faça silêncio e não use roupas de cores muito fortes, assim suas chances de avistar animais serão maiores.
• Quando em contato com as pessoas do local, ou visitando as comunidades, lembre-se de que você é o visitante.
• Respeito às populações tradicionais é muito importante em Mamirauá

RECOMENDAÇÕES SOBRE A VISITA ÀS COMUNIDADES

1. Como a população se beneficia?

A população local participa das atividades do Ecoturismo através de prestação de serviços como guias e auxiliares e através da venda de produtos.opulação local.

2. Onde ficam as comunidades?

Quando você visitar a Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável Mamirauá, você terá a oportunidade de visitar uma comunidade local perto do flutuante onde ficará hospedado. Na área destinada ao Ecoturismo, existem quatro comunidades, que juntas formam o Setor Mamirauá.

3. Por que visitar comunidades?

A idéia de oferecer esta oportunidade de interagir com a população local surgiu de duas maneiras. De um lado, houve interesse por parte dos próprios ecoturistas de conhecer tanto a população quanto a interação do Projeto Mamirauá com as comunidades. De outro, houve interesse da população local em ter contato com os visitantes da Reserva, entendendo que se beneficiaria com a troca de experiências e venda de produtos.

4. O artesanato

O principal produto oferecido ao ecoturista é o artesanato- mais que uma atividade econômica é o resultado de uma atividade cultural, produzido principalmente pelas mulheres. A venda do artesanato possibilita um adicional na renda familiar das comunidades.

5. Culturas distintas

A população das comunidades visitadas não é indígena, é ribeirinha e/ou cabocla. Sua cultura é bem diferenciada da urbana, e é necessário estar atento a essas diferenças.

6. Observações

A interação ecoturista-população local traz muitas vantagens, entretanto é necessário estar atento a uma série de observações a fim de se evitar um impacto social negativo proveniente destas visitas.

Solicitamos aos ecoturistas que, ao visitarem as comunidades, respeitem a privacidade dos habitantes e não entrem em suas residências. Lembrem-se sempre de pedir permissão para tirar fotos ou filmar algo ou alguém que você ache interessante. Especialmente se tratando de crianças, apenas a permissão delas não é o bastante, é necessário perguntar aos pais.

Lembramos que não há regras pré-determinadas, o bom-senso pode orientar o ecoturista durante sua visita, desta forma estaremos evitando possíveis impactos sociais negativos com a interação de culturas tão distintas.

Caso você tenha alguma dúvida, sempre pergunte à pessoa responsável pela visita.

O que é Mamirauá?

É uma Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (RDSM), é uma área de conservação singular na Amazônia , localizada no Rio Solimões (médio Solimões). A área é única porque:

• É a maior área protegida de várzea na Amazônia, oferecendo experiências e belezas cênicas singulares;
• sua fauna abundante e diversa é facilmente observada, para padrões amazônicos;
• Tem espécies endêmicas carismáticas como uacari-branco;
• É uma Reserva de Desenvolvimento Sustentável, a onde as comunidades participam ativamente na vida da Reserva;
• Tem um grande projeto de pesquisa, o que garante informações atualizadas sobre o ecossistema e a ecologia de espécies da fauna e flora;

A Pousada Flutuante Uacari fica a 1 ½ hora de voadeira (barco motorizado) e 3 ½ de Barco regional de Tefé, as voadeiras são de propriedade do Instituto Mamirauá.

The program has two main objectives:

• One of the strategies for the future funding of the Project and source of alternative income to the local population.

• Ecotourism in Mamirauá was idealised as a means of providing the local population with an economic alternative to the traditional use of natural resources. In order to do this, the Program has promoted local participation in decision-making, the training and utilisation of local workforce, sale of handicrafts and purchase of agricultural local produce.

T he Reserve is a state conservation unit located in the middle Solimões River (Amazon). It was first declared a protected area in 1990 as an ecological station. In 1996, after the publication of the management plan, it was categorised as a Sustainable Development Reserve, combining the conservation of the area with the managed use of natural resources by the local population.
T he Mamiraua Sustainable Development Institute was created by the federal government in June 1999. Its mission is "to conserve the biodiversity of the Mamirauá Reserve with participatory management".
The Institute, in partnership with the state, manages the Mamirauá Reserve. In order to this, it counts with more than one hundred researchers, extensionists and administrative personnel.
T he Mamirauá ecotourism programme offers a series of activities including excursions with local guides in channels, lakes and trails in the forest; visits to local riverine villages in order to interact and get to know the Amazonian population way of life and also the unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneer conservation project.

FIRST DAY: SATURDAY

Pick up is at 11:20 at Tefé Airport and transfer to the Areia Branca Pier (after some payments at office).

Departing around 12:00 from Areia Branca Pier, by boat you can enjoy the breeze and the magic scenery. You might even be able to spot wildlife, such as pink dolphins at Tefé Lake and tucuxis in the Amazonas River.

The arrival is around 14:00 at the Uakari Lodge, our staff will be waiting for you. There will always be an English-speaking person at the lodge. Our staff will give you rapid recommendations and explanations on the running of the lodge (meal times, solar power, water, no swimming, etc) and you will be asked to fill in the visitors registration form. At this time you will be able to meet all the employees responsible for making an excellent stay.

All outings have to be accompanied by a local guide and you must listen to the their recommendations at all times, specially those regarding your own safety.

At 15:30 you will be ready to go on a walk (dry season) in one of the trails. You will be taken with your whole group to do an Interpretative Trail. The naturalist and the local guide, joining scientific and traditional knowledge will help you to interpret the varzea's environment (flooded forest).

Our trails are designed not to be physically straining and most of them can be walked in three hours at the longest.

During the flood (May-July) all trails will be done in a small paddle canoe (your guide will paddle you through the trail).

The dinner will be served around 18:30. After dinner you will have the opportunity to hear a talk about the ecosystem and about the ecosystem and about the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Institute – its work, its research, etc. The naturalist guide will do the presentation at 19:30.

After the presentation, be ready to do a night tour with high chances to see the nocturnal fauna, as spiders, opossum, two-toed sloth, rats, bats, etc.

SECOND DAY: SUNDAY

If you choose to visit a local village, the morning is the time to do it. The Ecotourism program has had plenty of discussion with the local communities about those visits and agreed an informal itinerary with a series of attractions they would like to show and talk about. A person from the community will meet your group and show you around (please see the detailed information sheet about village visits). Depending on the village, you might have the opportunity to buy locally produced handicrafts - take small change with you.

If you choose not to visit a village you can go for another tour with your local guide.

At 15:30 the local guide will accompany you in another hiking or traditional canoe (rain season), in the heart of the forest, where you will have the opportunity to view various species of animals.

This night, we invite researchers that are working in the ecotourism area for dinner, after the dinner they give a presentation about their works.

THIRD DAY: MONDAY

In your last day in the Reserve, you have a choice to accompany a researchers team and participate of their field works and supplementing the technical information given last night. Or if you prefer, you can go to another wildlife viewing tour, travelling around the landscapes, channels and lakes system that compose part of the varzea's ecosystem.

In this afternoon you will be taken on a motorised canoe to lake Mamirauá, a beautiful lake inside the total preservation area of the Reserve. At the lake you will probably have memorable encounters with pink river dolphins, hoatzins and perhaps the pirarucu fish. You will stay there until the sunset and on your way back you will spot caimans, bats, night birds…

The Dinner is at 20:00 so you can enjoy your last night to talk to the staff, to see another kind of documentary or just pack for the next morning. Your departure will be early, during the beautiful Amazonian sunrise.

Before leaving (Tuesday), we would be grateful if you could fill out an evaluation form. It is very important for us to know your thoughts about the trip; in this way we can always improve our services.

If you choose not to visit a village you can go for another tour with your local guide.

The lunch will be served at 12:30. After lunch, you can rest in a hammock, watch a video about researches done at Mamirauá or an award-winning BBC documentary on Mamirauá, read a book, or just chat - outings will only be carried out when the sun goes down a little

In the afternoon you will go to another hiking or canoe tour, always exploring a different region of the reserve.

This night, we invite researchers that are working in the ecotourism area for dinner, after the dinner they give a presentation about their works.

THIRD DAY: THURSDAY

Animals in the forest wake up at sunrise, so if you are interested in sighting as much wildlife as possible, you have to wake up early. The breakfast is served at 06:30, at 7:00 the activities begin; you will be ready to go on a walk (during the dry season) in one of the trails. You will be taken with your whole group to do an Interpretative Trail. The naturalist and the local guide, joining scientific and traditional knowledge will help you to interpret the varzea's environment (flooded forest).

Our trails are designed not to be physically straining and most of them can be walked in three hours at the longest.

During the flood (May-July), all trails will be done in a small paddle canoe (your guide will paddle you through the trail).

In the afternoon you have a choice to accompany a researchers team and participate of their field works and supplementing the technical information given last night. Or if you prefer, you can go to another wildlife viewing tour, travelling around the landscapes, channels and lakes system that compose part of the varzea's ecosystem.

After the dinner, be ready to do a night tour with high chances to see the nocturnal fauna, as spiders, opossum, two-toed sloth, rats, bats, etc.

FOURTH DAY: FRIDAY

In your last day in the Reserve, you are more used to the forest, if you are really quiet and set out early enough, you might see even more wildlife like capuchin monkeys, howlers, uakaris and squirrel monkeys, three toed sloths, hoatzins, etc. If you prefer you can practise a traditional fish or piranha fishing.

In this afternoon you will be taken on a motorised canoe to lake Mamirauá, a beautiful lake inside the total preservation area of the Reserve. At the lake you will probably have memorable encounters with pink river dolphins, hoatzins and perhaps the pirarucu fish. You will stay there until the sunset and on your way back you will spot caimans, bats, night birds…

The Dinner is at 20:00 and with luck the jaguar. So you can enjoy your last night to talk to the staff, to see another kind of documentary or just pack for the next morning. Your departure will be early, during the beautiful Amazonian sunrise.

Before leaving (Saturday), we would be grateful if you could fill out an evaluation form. It is very important for us to know your thoughts about the trip; in this way we can always improve our services.

Recommendations

T he area you are about to visit in the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is part of the Várzea ecosystem, a forest flooded by the sediment-rich Amazonian rivers. It is made up of channels, lakes and the seasonally flooded forest itself.

The outings to the lakes and channels will use speedboats and canoes. At these times it is essential to protect yourself from the tropical sun. We recommend high factor sunblock and UV filtering sunglasses. Polarizing sunglasses will allow you to see through reflections on the water.

A system of trails has been constructed to allow access into the forest. We recommend adequate clothing and trekking boots, as some sections of the trails are often swampy. Please, don't use your best clothes as you'll get muddy!

Várzea contains more than their fair share of mosquitoes. They bite not only at night but also during day. So, don't forget insect repellent. DEET at 30% concentration works efficiently.

We recommend bringing the following items of personal equipment:

• binoculars
• long, comfortable trousers (pants)
• long sleeved shirts
• tennis shoes (or lightweight shoes)
• hat or peaked-cap
• insect repellent
• rain coat
• sunblock
• personal medication needed

You will be visiting a protected area. By Brazilian law, it is strictly forbidden to remove any kind of biological material from the reserve (including plants, animals, eggs, flowers, seeds, etc.). The ecotourism management will be strictly enforcing this rule for the benefit of the wildlife of the reserve. You will find trash bins in the floating house. Throwing rubbish into the forest or lakes and channels will pollute the ecosystem. It is not allowed.

Due to the presence of piranhas, caiman and venomous snakes in the water, we do not recommend swimming in the lakes, channels or the flooded forest.

Your guides will be accompanying you throughout your stay in the forest or trips to the lakes. For your safety, it is forbidden to enter the forest or undertake your own excursions without the company of a guide.

Alcoholic beverages are only allowed at the Uakari lodge, and forbidden during outings.

The Mamirauá Ecotourism Program cannot be held liable for accidents caused by disobeying these rules.

During the low water period you will be able to walk along the trails. However, at high water (usually from January to July) you will only be able to move along these trails by canoe. Some care should be taken on these occasions:

Do not touch branches or tree trunks (venomous animals such as scorpions, fire ants and spiders live there and are extremely hard to see).

Always use your lifejacket while in speedboats and canoes. Your life may depend on that.

Please be silent and do not use brightly colored clothes; in doing so your chances to spot something interesting will increase.

When in contact with local inhabitants, or visiting local villages, remember that you are the outsider. Respect to traditional populations is very important to Mamirauá.

Recommendations about the village visits

1. How does the local population benefit?

All workforce used by the ecotourism program in the Reserve is locally resident. The locals participate in ecotourism activities rendering services as guides and kitchen staff, selling agricultural produce, fish and art craft.

2. Where are the villages located?

When you visit the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve, you will have the opportunity to visit a village located nearby the floating house where you will be staying. There are four villages inside the area destined to the development of the ecotourism program; together they constitute the Mamirauá Sector.

3. Why visit the villages?

The idea to offer an opportunity to interact with the local population was born in two ways. On one hand the visitors showed a growing interest in having some contact with the local population, as well as seeing the impacts of the Mamirauá Project on the communities.

On the other side, the residents also wished to have contact with the tourists, understanding they would benefit from cultural exchange and selling of products.

4. Locally-made handicrafts

The main marketable product offered to the tourists is handicraft. The production of handicrafts represents more than an economic activity, it is the result of a cultural activity produced mainly by women. The sale of handicrafts provides households with an additional source of income.

5. Different cultures

The population of the villages is not Indian. They are called ribeirinhos, or 'river people', a mix of Amerindian and European peoples. Their culture is very different from the urban one, and it is necessary to pay attention to those differences.

6. Observations

There are many advantages that can come from the interaction between the ecotourist and the locals; however, there is a series of observations that have to be borne in mind in order to avoid possible negative social impact from these visits.

We ask the visitor to respect the privacy of local inhabitants in their residencies.
Always remember to ask permission before taking photos or filming something or someone that you find interesting.
Avoid taking pictures of children. It is not enough to have their permission; you need to ask their parents' permission as well.

There are no pre-determined rules; we believe that common sense can guide the tourist during the visit. In this way we will be avoiding possible negative social impacts as a result of the interaction of such different cultures.

In case you come across situations where you have doubts or questions, always ask the person responsible for the visit.
